Hobothello

The object of the game is to end up with more red pills on the board than blue. Hover your mouse over an empty spot next to a blue pill to see if you have a legal move.

When you set down a red pill, all blue pills in between it and other reds on the board will be flipped to red. Essentially you are trying to "sandwich" blue pills in a line between 2 red pills. This can be done horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Now it is blue's turn. Blue will try to flip over as many red pills as possible to blue. The game goes back and forth like this until the board is completely full. At games end, if there are more red than blue pills on the board, then you win.

Let's go through an example round:

1. It is your turn. You are the red pills. Blue is ahead, 5 to 3. The yellow dots represent your possible moves. Any of these moves will place a blue pill in between two reds.

2. Let's say you choose to move here:

3. You put down your pill, and the blue one in between changes to red:

4. Great! Now you're winning, 5 to 4. But wait, it's blue's turn. Let's say blue lays down a pill on the yellow spot below:

5. DAMMIT! Blue has sandwiched your red pills in three seperate directions, flipping over three pieces. Blue is now ahead, 8 to 2:

Play continues back and forth like this until the board is full and the game is over. Be aware that you can sandwich any number of blue pieces between reds.

PROTIPS

-The corners and edges of the board are the best strategic spots. Control the edges, and you control the game.

-It's about how many pieces you end the game with, so don't worry if you're behind midgame. Just try and control the edges and corners and you'll prevail in the end.

-Google "Othello Rules" for more information and strategies. God knows I can't be arsked to type anymore...
